Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

It's Saturday 10am and the sea is crashing onto the Hunstanton beach, telling teams that it's ready to give them a hard time. The first race is Sunday morning.

From mid day today we'll attend the opening ceremony where all teams and a boat from each nation will parade to the green at Hunstanton.
There, all team captains will introduce their teams and the event will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor.

It's now 26 years after the first ever World Water Ski Racing Championships which took place at Whitstable, Allhallows and Welsh Harp in Great Britain and it was Australia's Wayne Ritchie and Bronwyn Wing who won those inaugural world titles. Predicting who will snap up those titles this year is a tough call.

It's tremendous to see this prestigious event come back to Great Britain and we will be seeing the likes of Steve Moore, Andy Clarkin, Andrew Coe and many other prominent names from years gone by making guest appearances to check out the top level of ski racing as it is today.

You can receive regular reports published on every race day (remember the time difference between Britain and Australia) by joining the World Water Ski Racing mailing list on www.worlds.skirace.net . There will also be a link to the points there.

Robbie Llewellyn

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

At 8.45am today (Sunday) the best women ski racers in the world launched into action at the first round of the 14th World Water Ski Racing Championships in Hunstanton, Great Britain.

We saw a fantastic piece of action between the current world champion Ann Procter and Britain's Kim Lumley. Side by side they raced until Ann took a fall and let Kim cruise through to a win.

In F2 women, Australia's Lauryn Eagle dominated the field and stole a nice 1000 points ahead of Belgium's Lena Feringa in 2nd and America's Janine Doherty in 3rd.

In the Junior race Australia's Ben Gulley and Brendan Stout put on an exceptional performance - side by side, one edging out on the other.  As the race went on, the water roughed up. Ben took a fall and Brendan fell in front of the crowd, just after taking the blue flag.

With the water taking prisoner aafter prisoner, we ended up seeing America's Sam Frey win ahead of Brendan Stout in 2nd and Elliott King in 3rd.

In the Junior girls it was Malory Nordblad who put in a tremendous performance. She pipped Australia's Sarah Eagle on the finish line and Kristy Taylor took 3rd.

The UNOFFICIAL results are shown below. Official results will be posted as soon as possible.

With worsening water conditions, a decision has been made to postpone the Men's event to 7pm this evening or 9am on Monday. We are awaiting the final decision at the time of publishing this.

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

A tremendous day's racing has just come to an end with official pesentations taking place in 2hrs time.

We saw the 1st round of the mens get off to a great start with Todd Haig dominating the field from start to finish.

The real excitement was in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions where Darren Kirkland and Karl Brooks battled it out. Brooks went for a fall after nipping into 2nd and Kirkland then broke. Italy's Carlo Cassa missed his start and although he began to work hs way up through the field clocking the fastest lap times, he took another fall which set him back again. Karl Brooks recovered quickly and went onto take 2nd whilst Britain's Jamie Cramphorn played a careful race from start to finish and took a 3rd.

In mens' F2 we saw a tremendous amount of excitement with skiers changing positions but it was America's Justin Soller who went on to win the day with Britan's Chris Cole in 2nd and Australia's George Fitos in 3rd.

In the Women's we saw Kim Lumley and Ann Procter battle it out from the start but Ann fell very early on allowing Kim to cruise to a win after the race was stopped after 35 minutes. Lee Hicks then moved up to take a good 3rd place.

In F2 Women's it was Lauren Eagle who put on a great show to claen up the day ahead of America's Janne Doherty in 2nd and America's Lori Dunsmore in 3rd.

The Junior race was a spectacle as Ben Gulley, Sam Frey and Brendan Stout raced side by side for a number of laps.

Ben took a fall and Sam pulled out on Brendan. Ben recovered and started notching up the fastest laps but it wasn't enough to stop Eliott King get a good 3rd.

In the Junior girls we watched Mallory Nordblad take the lead but then a fal. Sarah Eagle jumped into the no.1 position but Mallory clawed back into 1st and won the race with Sarah in 2nd and Vicky Leysens in 3rd.

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

The teams have just come off the water after seeing men's
F1 & F2 race for the 2nd day of racing. Today's race was classifid as Round 1, after the postponment of Sunday's race.

Once again Todd Haig took a commanding lead from the word go and he went on to put in a spectacular performance lapping every other skier in the race.

Britain's Karl Brooks had 2nd for a while with Jamie Cramphorn in 3rd. But once again we saw a constant change of places as Karl fell, as did Darren Kirkland and carlo Cassa suffered a bad start again.

America's Marshall pulled his way up into 3rd position and challenged Jamie Cramphorn who by then had 2nd spot. And after some great racing side by side Marshall took 2nd position at the chequered flag with Jamie in 3rd.

In F2 we saw another fantastic battle and interesting changing of places. Tommy Klarenbeck had the lead at half way but America's Justin Soller was climbing up hrough the field after a slow start.

At the end of the race it was Justin who won F2 fr the 2nd day in a row with Tommy in 2nd and Britain's Chris Cole in 3rd.

UNOFFICIAL 1st 3 places

F1 Men
1 Todd Haig (USA)
2 Marshall Cole (USA)
3 Jamie Cramphorn (GB)

F2 Men
1 Justin Soller (USA)
2 Tommy Klarenbeck (NED)
3 Chris Cole (GB)

Official points will be published later today. Eith click on the RESULTS link at www.worlds.skirace.net or go direct to www.wskreame.org

I have to run straight to a meeting now so unfortunately I am unable to publish unofficial points today.

The next day of racing is tomorrow (Thursday) with the first race at 12.15.

16 June 2005

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

Today's racing was delayed due to high winds that whipped up very rough water. The men's race was set to start at 12.15 when we saw the men's round 3 being postponed until tomorrow and only the women's F1 & F2 being run this afternoon after the water conditions improved.

On the first leg it was Ann Procter, Kim Lumley, Erin Saunders and Natalie Scott almost side by side. Natalie fell on the back leg and Ann, Kim and Erin fought neck and neck for several laps until Ann began to pull out and take a commanding lead. In the remaining laps we saw Erin steal 2nd from Kim but Kim came back and at the end of the race. Ann took 1st with Kim 2nd and Erin 3rd.

The most impressive performance, in my opinion, came from 17 year old Formula 2 skier Lauren Eagle from Australia.

Lauren not only dominated the F2 field but she went on to catch and pass Kim Lumley and Ann Procter and win the race overall with a single engine outboard.

Lori Dunsmore put in her best race of the week so far to take 2nd and Australia's Shan Boyer took 3rd.

At the time of publication, the jury is dealing with objections in F1 Women's which means that the results below are unofficial and .yet to be confirmed. 'IF' the points below become official, Kim Lumley becomes the new Women's formula 1 world champion.

But we do know that Lauren Eagle is now the 2005 Women's Formula 2 World Champion.

Round 3 Women

Formula 1
1 54 Procter, Ann AUS 1000.00
2 3 Lumley, Kim GBR 987.88
3 191 Saunders, Erin USA 924.90
4 110 Hicks, Lee AUS 811.22
5 14 Nordblad, Lacey USA 777.79
6 9 Carson, Emma AUS 749.49
7 224 Scott, Natalie GBR 681.29
8 20 Magdeleyns, Christel BEL 530.61
34 Harvey, Cally GBR 0.00

Formula 2
1 24 Eagle, Lauren AUS 1000.00
2 19 Dunsmore, Lori USA 787.52
3 111 Boyer, Shan AUS 778.63
4 923 Feringa, Lena BEL 758.40
5 38 Kirk, Claire GBR 587.39
6 173 Hebenstreit, Kati AUT 445.56
7 373 Doherty, Janine USA 434.60

The next batch of racing takes place after noon on Friday
with Men's and Juniors.

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

Great weather at Hunstanton today saw higher temperatures and pretty calm waters for the 3rd rounds of the junior's and men's races.

In the Juniors we watched Sam Frey put on an awesome display of speed and although Brendan Stout was challenging, Sam ran away with a win with Brendan 2nd. Sam is now the new Junior boys World Champion.

In Juniors we saw Mallory Nordblad become the new world champion as she notched up yet another convincing win.

Later on the men took to the water with carlo Cassa storming through first on lap 1 with Todd Haig right behind. Karl Brooks was in 3rd but soon Belgium's Filip Vervecken moved up to pass Karl and then Carlo. The end of the race saw Todd Haig win and become the new World Champion while Filip took 2nd place on the day and Carlo 3rd.

In F2, Holland's Tommy Klarenbeck dominated the race from start to finish and although Tim Lisens had a slow start, he pulled his way back through the field to take 2nd ahead of Justn Soller. But Justin's performance was enough to secure him sufficient points to become the new Men's formula world champion.

A fantastic day of very fast racing in contrast to the rough seas we have seen so far during these worlds.

I have no points from time control at this stage but they will e posted later today. You can get them via

www.worlds.skirace.net or: www.wskreame.org/Results

The final rounds of all races go off tomorrow and they start with Women's at 1.15pm, Junior's at 3.00pm and Men's a 4.30pm.

I will add that we have seen some very worthy World Champions here today and overall, an excellent day's racing.

Dear World Water Ski Racing Reader,

The fourth and final round of the 14th World Water Ski Racing Championships have just come to an end with a spectacular day of racing in fast conditions for the Women, Juniors and Men's races.

In great weather we joined thousands of spectators on the beach wall to enjoy some very exciting racing. The Women started the day and it was Austria's Sabine Ortileb take the lead ahead of World Champion Mallory Nordblad. Malory crept back up the field and then moved into the number 1 spot to go on and win with Sabine in a good 2nd.

In Junior Boys we sa some great racing with the Sam Frey, Elliott King Brendan Stout and Ben Gulley. Sam moved ahead of Brendan and Elliott took a fall. That left World Champion Sam Frey go on to win with Brendan 2nd and Ben 3rd.

In the Women's it was Ann Procter from start to finish and although Kim Lumley hung on in 2nd, she lost a fair bit of ground as Ann went on to a convincing win with Erin Saunders 3rd.

In F2 Women, Lauryn Eagle put on another awesome perfomance winning the race in fine style ahead of Lena Feringa from Belgium with America's Lori Dunsmore taking 3rd.

The Men's was the final rac of the day with Carlo Cassa powering into the lead with Todd Haig close by. Karl Brooks had 3rd and a number of othrs hung in there on the first leg. Todd stole the lead of Carlo and a one stage we saw Karl challenge Carlo but with no joy. The race finally settled and ended with Todd making it 4 out of 4, Carlo took 2nd and Karl a good 3rd.

Official results will be posted here later, after a few protests have been dealt with:

www.worlds.skirace.net or: www.wskreame.org/Results

A tremendous day of racing has ended the 14th World Championships, which has provided both rough and quick water conditions, providn us with some very worthy new Wold Champions.

Congratulations to all teams, to the organisers of this fine event and to everyone who has contributed to the hospitality and sportsmanship and friendship of world championship water ski racing.

From me, a personal thank you to Mike Walters Chairman of the oganising committee, Mandy Rix, Paul Searle, Richard Connock and Simon Gale. many other people made the event happen, but these people have helped me considerably through his event.

20 June 2005

Last week the fastest waterski racers in the world flew into Britain and gathered at Hunstanton, Norfolk to pit their wits against one another for the coveted World Championship medals. In this the fastest form of waterskiing, highly tuned athletes towed by highly tuned powerboats hurtled around a course for up to 60 minutes in an out and out race to the chequered flag. This was only the 2nd time that Britain had hosted the event, 26 years after the inaugural World Championships in 1979.

Britain’s Kim Lumley was up against former two-time World Champion Ann Procter from Australia in the Women’s and skiing behind her Bernico boat she screamed into an early lead in rounds one and two, taking wins in both races. In round three, Kim finished behind the Australian but had secured enough points to steal the world title away from Ann and become Britain’s new World Water Ski Racing Champion. America’s Erin Saunders took third.

23 yr old Kim from Cambridgeshire has spent months training in Britain and Australia in preparation for the World Championships and the hard work has finally paid off. No other Brit has managed to win a world championship in water ski racing since the days of Steve Moore (MBE) and Liz Hobbs (MBE) back in the 1980s. When I asked Kim how she felt after the event she said, “I feel on top of the world to be the World Champion”.

In the Men’s race America’s Todd Haig dominated the event winning four out of four rounds, proving that without a doubt, he is the best water ski racer in the world. Britain’s Karl Brooks put on a fine display of speed and stamina to take the silver and Italy’s Carlo Cassa added another bronze to his previous two silvers and one bronze in World Championship ski racing

In the Men’s Formula 2 America’s Justin Soller stole the show to become the new world champion ahead of Holland’s Tommy Klarenbeck in 2nd and Chris Cole of Great Britain in 3rd.

17 yr old Australian Lauryn Eagle won the Women’s Formula 2 World Championship to add to her recent accomplishment of being crowned Miss Teen International. America’s Janine Doherty took 2nd and the 47 yr old highly accomplished Lori Dunsmore wrapped up 3rd.

The Juniors proved that the world has some incredible talent coming up through the ranks and Sam Frey from the USA put on a tremendous show to win the world title ahead of the two 15 yr olds Brendan Stout and Ben Gulley from Australia who took 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Junior girl Mallory Nordblad did her former world champion mother proud by winning the Junior girl’s World Title for the USA with Australia’s Sarah Eagle 2nd and Belgium’s Vicky Leysen 3rd.

Great Britain put on a tremendous event with rough and calm water conditions. New Zealand is interested in hosting the 2007 World Championships.
